Edwin John Case

Edwin John Case (Ed) of Skidaway Island, passed away April 20, 2024.

Ed was born to Ethel Florence Henkel Case and Milton Allen Case in October 1936 in New York City, growing up in Larchmont, NY.  He is a graduate of Lafayette College where he became a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.  Ed entered the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1966.  He joined the Market Research Department at The Bristol Myers Company where he gained invaluable experience in product research and marketing.  After four years with Bristol, he joined the advertising agency business with Fuller, Smith and Ross, and later SSC&B in NYC.  Ed then returned to the client side of the marketing business by moving to General Foods (GF) in 1966, where he spent the next 16 years at GF in White Plains, NY working mostly in the product evaluation area at the division (Kool Aid Division) and corporate level with emphasis on substantiating advertisement claims for all company brands.

In 1985, Ed decided to leave the corporate world and he started his own survey research company, E.J. Case Associates, Inc.  The risky move paid off as many marketers became regular clients which included Pepsico, Nabisco, and Gillette.  The company’s largest project was for AT&T Co. that eventually assessed the potential impact of the “Dial 1” system.

The Cases moved to the Landings from Darien, CT in 1998.  Ed continued his business contacts, remaining active until 2007.  Ed enjoyed playing the game of golf at The Landings, he was a lover of opera, playing card games with friends, he was a master wood worker, and active with the Bethesda Barn Builders.   Ed was an avid boater, enjoying the waters of Long Island Sound and areas around Savannah.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Jane; his son Edwin John Case Jr. (Ned) of Raleigh, NC, and granddaughters Cassidy and Cecilia; his daughter Leslie A. Sylvetsky (and Bob) of Jupiter, FL, and grandson Charlie; three stepsons, Timothy Nelson of St. Louis MO, Christopher Nelson of Seattle, WA, and step granddaughter Sasha; and Duane Nelson (and Renee) of Sandpoint, ID, and step grandsons Keegan and Porter.

Ed will be interned at Skidaway Community Church Memorial Garden and Columbarium in a private family service.
